2 Samuel 20

Today's Passage: 2 Samuel 20

In our chapter, we see a man named Sheba raise up on army in rebellion to David. There are a couple of things to focus on:

1. God’s consequences to David are happening, just as He said they would.

After David committed adultery with Bathsheba, God told David in 2 Samuel 12:10 that the sword would not depart from his house. David was continuing to face the consequences of sin. Why is God just in punishing David for his wrongdoing?

2. God raises up a deliverer to save HIs people.

God used a wise woman, whose name we do not know, to kill Sheba and save the people. Joab was going to overthrow the whole city (v. 15), but the wise woman saved her people by getting rid of the wickedness (the wickedness being Sheba).

During this time, societies were very patriarchal. Women had no to little rights. So it’s amazing to see how God values women, and how God would use them in Christ-like roles. This woman stood in the gap for her people and delivered them from the destruction awaiting.

It’s a reminder for us: God takes the “outcast and overlooked” in society to accomplish His purposes. All people are valuable. All people have a purpose. God can use what society or culture has deemed worthless to accomplish great things for His Kingdom.

Do you feel as if God cannot use you? What might be holding you back from allowing God to use you in a mighty way?
