2 Samuel 15

Today's Passage: 2 Samuel 15

Why would God allow such a thing to happen to David, his chosen king? David was a man after God’s own heart, he of all people should have received the Lord’s blessing. But worldly gain and favor do not always equal the Lord’s blessing. Sometimes the greatest blessings come through suffering.

We like to think we learn from the victories, and I’m sure we do, but our faith is strengthened the most in the midst of trials because they have a way of stripping away our comforts and securities and forcing us to rely upon the Lord. When we can’t see the next step is when we have to walk by faith.

James 1:2-4 tells us, “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” (ESV)

So think back through your life to a situation where you felt like your back was up against a wall and you were stuck. On this side of that trial, how was the Lord working to strengthen your faith or draw you to himself?

David was chased out by his own son, but God would offer his one and only Son to give us our greatest blessing. How can the blessing of knowing Christ impact you in the midst of trials?
