1 Samuel 17

Today’s Passage: 1 Samuel 17
Enjoy this jumpstart today written by Tim Parsons - founding pastor of CPC - and pray about how you can (1) stand for God’s name and (2) join His mission.
Standing Up...
Today we read one of the most well known stories in the entire Bible – the story of David and Goliath. David, through the anointing of the Holy Spirit kills a nine-foot giant defying the armies of the Lord and the Name of the Lord. What he did took courage – a belief in God and His strength to protect.
This brings up an interesting question today – Will you stand up for the Name of Lord and defend His honor?
God is under attack all around us – in our education, our media, at work, in our government – even in our families. Will you make a stand for Him? God’s honor is worth defending. Does it bother you when people blaspheme His precious Name around you? What are you going to do about it? Is it simply their right?

What will you stand up for today? Remember – If you don’t stand for something, you will fall for anything!

David stood because...
● He knew the cause was worth it.
...he has defied the armies of the living God. (v. 36b)
● He knew that God would protect him.
The Lord who rescued me from the claws of the lion and the bear will
rescue me from this Philistine!” (v.37)
● He knew God would give him the victory.
Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. Psalm 20:7
