1 Samuel 14:16-52

Today's Passage: 1 Samuel 14:16-52
When you think of a King or a leader, what sort of traits do you think of? Powerful, wise, smart, etc. As the king of Israel, Saul is called to be those things but paired with humility and faith. This passage shows Saul's weakness as a leader. He thought HE knew best and acted in pride rather than depending upon the Lord.
There are failures that we should look at. Saul's rash decision and vow caused his people and his son to sin against the Lord. Throughout your day, are you living and acting based on your own knowledge and wisdom, or are you seeking God's will? You don't have to ask the Lord before you make every decision in your life (like what to eat for lunch), but your heart posture should be aimed to follow and glorify God through everything you do.
Second, Saul only sought the Lord when there was a problem. The passage notes that this is the first altar that Saul built for the Lord. To be clear, the Lord wants us to come to Him in difficult situations, but He wants our hearts to seek Him at all times. That is when our hearts will truly find satisfaction.
Christianity is a relationship with Jesus. It's not a formula to get to Heaven. God wants our hearts to seek Him, talk with Him, and listen to Him, and in return, He wants to overflow our hearts with joy and life.
Has there been a situation where you sought the Lord's will/wisdom?
How did he answer?
How can you seek the Lord more throughout your day?

Thank you Joe! I have definitely learned that if I don't seek the Lord, I am living in the flesh, and situations end up with fleshly consequences. I thank you for this constant reminder to always seek Him first!
