1 Samuel 11

Today's Passage: 1 Samuel 11
God often uses our imperfect ways to bring Himself glory and proclaim His power. Earlier in 1 Samuel 8 - God warned Israel about having Kings. Things always go better when we do them God’s way, but Israel wanted to do it their way. How often is this us?
So God gave them a King - King Saul. In chapter 10 he was anointed. In chapter 11, while filled with the Holy Spirit, God used him to defeat the Ammonites and bring restoration to the land.
This shows GOD’S GOODNESS not OUR SUFFICIENCY.
Even though later, the kingship would not go as planned for Israel God kept His promises BECAUSE He is a promise keeping God. He had made a covenant with Israel that they were His people and He was their God. He intended on keeping that covenant.
If you look throughout your life, you will continue to see the thread of GOD’S GOODNESS > OUR SUFFICIENCY. We often, as well, choose our own way. Yet God has established a covenant with us through Jesus Christ - the new covenant of salvation. God intends on keeping His promises.
This is why we lay down everything for Him. He is the top priority and he is worth it. One thing we can learn from Israel’s mistakes and later, Saul’s mistakes, is that God’s way is always better even when it doesn’t seem that way.
He has the whole picture. We have a part. He is God. We are not. He is good. We are not sufficient. In what ways do you need to align your life to God’s way over your way this week?
