1 Samuel 4:12-22

Today's Passage: 1 Samuel 4:12-22

Preceding today’s verses we see the defeat of Israel: 30,000 soldiers of Israel were killed, but even worse, the ark of God was captured by the Philistines.

The ark of God was a sacred chest that housed the tablets that the 10 commandments were written on and represented the earthly glory of God.

Obviously, the earthly representation of God’s glory being stolen by a people who does not acknowledge the true God would have been a travesty to those involved. Perhaps that is why both Eli and his daughter-in-law showed more concern about the ark being stolen than their son and husband, respectively, being killed in the battle.

This begs the question: how does how you live on a daily basis reflect how you view the glory of God?

I’m not asking if you say that you want everything you do to bring glory to God. I’m asking if the way you act reflects that statement? Are there gaps between what you say you believe and how your actions confirm or deny that truth?

Spend time in prayer today, asking God to help you to genuinely bring glory to God in your thoughts, words and actions on a daily basis.
