1 Samuel 2:1-11

Today's Passage: 1 Samuel 2:1-11

As I write this, I am looking at a photo of my daughter, Eden, singing with me on stage. That photo means so much to me. I am such a proud father! But more than being a wonderful memory, that photo represents the faithfulness of the Lord to answer prayers.

My grandma is the definition of a prayer warrior. Ever since I was little, my grandmother has prayed over me (and my entire family) and told me that I would be a mighty man of God. (She even told me I would be a pastor). Back then I would roll my eyes. I wanted to play baseball - or frankly anything else! But she never wavered.

She prayed that prayer daily and by God’s grace I gave my life to Christ! She prayed I would find a godly spouse and the Lord answered more abundantly than she or I could have ever imagined. She prayed (and asked us repeatedly) that we would have godly grandchildren and after having Eden I’ve seen her pray over her the way she used to pray over me… See, this picture means more than the memory it depicts. It represents how good and faithful our God is. He hears our prayers and loves to answer his children.

“If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!” Matthew 7:11

Hannah believed that God could hear her. He saw her in her desperation and was willing and able to answer her. Her song is a testimony to God’s faithfulness. That God sees and exalts the humble and lowly. Despite the circumstances, Hannah trusted in God’s power and his goodness. We could learn a lot from her example.

That doesn’t mean we will always see God answer our prayers the way we hope he will, but it does mean that we can trust him and worship him the same way that Hannah did. My grandma is in the late stages of Alzheimer’s. When she sees the photo of Eden and me she will most likely not know who we are. She may not see how the Lord answered her prayers on this side of Heaven, but she, like Hannah, knew that her God was faithful.

“The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.” James 5:16

What does your prayer life look like?
When you pray, do you believe that God hears you and is willing and able to answer?
What do you do if God doesn’t answer you?

Thank you Joe for sharing a wonderful and special moment of your life. It touched my heart very deeply. May our Lord continue to bless you and your family. Pat and I will continue to lift you and all the staff up in prayer each day.

Agree! What a wonderful viewpoint. It is good to be able to step back and see all that God has done actively in our lives. My ma-in-law said once, "God has been taking care of you your whole life and He's not going to stop"

Thanks to God for your grandmother!
