Acts 4:23-27

Today's Passage: Acts 4:23-27
What a beautiful picture of the church in Acts today! We see them praying for boldness to continue to proclaim the name of Jesus no matter what they face, and we see them providing for each other’s needs. Ultimately, we see the Holy Spirit at work in them!
It is crazy to me that the experience of Peter and John in the previous part of this chapter did not frighten the new believers. They were absolutely exhilarated by Peter and John’s recounting of it. There are a couple of reasons for this:
As we go throughout our week, let us learn more of who God is and trust in His character, who He reveals Himself to be through both the Old and New Testaments. Let us use His Word to comfort and guide us!
What does it mean to you to know that God doesn’t learn new information? How can we trust God more in our own walk with Him?

It is crazy to me that the experience of Peter and John in the previous part of this chapter did not frighten the new believers. They were absolutely exhilarated by Peter and John’s recounting of it. There are a couple of reasons for this:
1. They trusted in God’s sovereignty.
God is in control of all events. He is all powerful, is all seeing, and is all knowing. He does not learn new information, He cannot be surprised by anything! The believers here are fully trusting in who God says He is! That means that regardless of the circumstance, even in their trials and intense suffering, they knew that God had ordained all of it.
2. They knew their Bibles!
At this point they only have the Old Testament, and they knew it very well, trusting it to be the holy Word of God, completely without error. They found comfort in the fact that everything they were experiencing, the opposition and ultimate persecution, was foreseen in the Old Testament. God has written all of history according to an eternal plan, and the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus was a part of it.
