Exodus 27

Today's Passage: Exodus 27

All of the specific details about the tabernacle throughout these chapters of Exodus show lots of things, but the one that stands out to me most is this: God desires to dwell with His people.

We see from the garden of Eden, to the building of the tabernacle and then the temple, to Jesus coming to earth and dwelling with His creation, to finally having the Holy Spirit live inside of us when we come into a relationship with God through Jesus, God wants us to be with Him!

Because of sin separating us from a perfect and holy God, many things had to be in place and upheld in order to even be close to His presence within the Most Holy Place. This demonstrates how seriously God takes our sin! However, He made a way for them to temporarily atone for it. And all of this was a foreshadowing of what Christ would fulfill: He would be the ultimate sacrifice, the best High Priest, so that our sin could be paid for and us to be in a relationship with God through Jesus.

Hebrews 10:11-14 says, “And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet. For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.”

We don’t have to continually make sacrifices anymore because Christ was the ultimate sacrifice, paying for our sins once and for all.

What would it be like to have to make frequent animal sacrifices to atone for your sin? Do you ever feel like the cross wasn’t enough to pay for your sin? Reflect on these detailed chapters of Exodus and on Hebrews 10 and thank God for making a way for your sins to be paid for completely!
