Exodus 26

Today's Passage: Exodus 26
In Exodus 26, we read about the building of the Tabernacle. The Tabernacle was basically a portable Temple. At this point in Israel’s history, they did not have a permanent residing place. They were still trying to get to the Promised Land.
The Tabernacle was a visual representation of the place where God would dwell with His people. God has always been about dwelling with His people. We see that throughout the whole Bible. It starts with Eden, then the tabernacle, then the Temple, then in Jesus, then through the Holy Spirit (which is where we are currently), and then in the New Eden forever.
The Tabernacle shared similarities to the Garden of Eden, but it did not compare to the glory of Eden. Eden was perfect. God would walk and talk to Adam and Eve. The Tabernacle, while still important, could never compare. In the Tabernacle, there was a section called, “The Most Holy Place”. In it contained the Ark of the Covenant, and it was there that God would descend to meet His people. The only problem: the High Priest could only go in once a year on the Day of Atonement. God was not dwelling with His people as before because of this little thing we like to call sin.
All that to say, we are still awaiting the day we get to be with God in perfect relationship forever. The people of Israel longed for that day. Christians for centuries have been looking forward to it too. We should, with hopeful expectation, be longing for it as well.
Spend some time thanking God for the future hope of Heaven we have.
