Exodus 25

Today's Passage: Exodus 25
On the surface, it might be hard to grasp how the details of Exodus 25 are important for your life today. Moses is giving instructions on the sanctuary, the Ark of the Covenant, and the Table for Bread. But what might get lost in some of these details is the whole reason that these instructions are so important: God is going to dwell with his people!
8 And let them make me a sanctuary, that I may dwell in their midst.
The truth that God dwells with his people is something that we should never take for granted. Here’s why this is significant.
God’s grace to dwell with sinful people.
Imagine you have read from Genesis 1 up until Exodus 25 in order. It would be a difficult assignment to count how many examples of sin and brokenness you would have seen up until this point. And, newsflash: the rest of the Old Testament is filled with even more!
Because of God’s holiness, he cannot co-exist with sin. That is why the sacrificial system is needed. Sin deserves death, and sacrifice is the way that sin is atoned for. But instead of atonement simply excusing our sin, it actually allows God to dwell with us.
The fact that God even wanted to dwell with his sinful people is a testament to his grace and mercy shown through sacrificial atoning for sin, and ultimately through the perfect substitutionary atonement of Jesus on the cross—the perfect substitute and sacrifice once for all.
God’s dwelling with us through the Holy Spirit.
19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. 1 Cor. 6:19-20
In Christ, God dwells in believers through the Holy Spirit!
God’s promise to dwell with his people in perfect eternity.
“Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.” Rev. 21:3
We have the promise that God will restore all things, wipe away tears from our eyes, and that he will dwell with his people perfectly. What hope this should be for you in the midst of trials and suffering!
God has purchased you through his blood, dwells in you now, and will dwell with you perfectly for all of eternity.
That is why these details are significant.
