Nahum 2

Today's Passage: Nahum 2

In Nahum 2, we see the destruction of Nineveh:

The scatterer has come up against you.
Man the ramparts;
watch the road;
dress for battle;
collect all your strength.

Why? For what purpose?

2  For the LORD is restoring the majesty of Jacob
as the majesty of Israel,
for plunderers have plundered them
and ruined their branches.

While God used Nineveh as judgment on the unfaithfulness of Israel, their own idolatry and unfaithfulness will not go unpunished. While in the time of Jonah there was a group in Nineveh that repented and turned to God, that was apparently no longer the case.

The remainder of chapter 2 is essentially God describing how terrible this judgment on this city will be.

The whole book of Nahum serves as a reminder that God judges sin and that God acts on his own timetable, not always in the way that we would desire him to.

All of us will face the judgment of God because of our sin—only those who are in Christ can have any confidence to stand before it.

All of us are affected by the plans of God—do we trust him enough to believe that he is still good even when things are not going our way?
