Malachi 4

Today's Passage: Malachi 4
The Day of the Lord throughout the Old Testament is a reference to God’s judgment against sin. The opening verses of chapter four describe this coming day and it’s terrifying. Just look at some of the descriptors: The day will be “burning like an oven,” and evildoers will be “stubble, set ablaze, and trampled underfoot.” Why do you think God goes into such a dark description of the Day of the Lord? How can a loving God do things like that?
God is perfectly loving AND perfectly just. These two traits are not at odds, rather they work hand in hand. For God to truly be perfect he must exact full justice upon sin because it is the only holy response to evil. This is bad news for us sinners!
The good news is that this terrible wrath of God that we read about in this chapter HAS been exacted upon his son - for those who fear and believe in him. Malachi says that we [Christians] will go out leaping like calves from the stall - if you’re not a farmer, he’s saying we’ve been freed! Freed from the chains of sin, death, and judgment because the “Son of Righteousness” took it for us and then conquered it by rising from the dead!
Our response to this truth should look similar to verses 4-6. We ought to turn from our sins and live according to God’s Word. Have you considered the price that Jesus paid for you? This chapter is a sobering reminder of the wrath that he bore for us, and we must allow it to change our hearts.
What was your big takeaway from the book of Malachi?
Is there any sin in your life that you haven’t confessed to the Lord?

Jesus died to save us from the wrath of The Day of the Lord! Amen! I strongly believe that Christ may come back in our generation. I believe we are now coming close to the Tribulation. We tell the Gospel to as many people as possible.
