Hosea 10

Today’s Passage: Hosea 10

There is an attribute of God that is so apparent as you read the story and narrative of
Scripture… PATIENCE. God is patient.

“The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you,
not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.”
// 2 Peter 3:9

But along with His patience, God is also just. And the verse in Galatians 6:7 is also true…

“ 7 Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap.” //
Galatians 6:7

In this chapter in Hosea we are seeing this lived out. Israel will reap what they have sowed. God
is not mocked. They will receive justice. They will experience judgment.

They have rebelled. They have run. They do not fear God. Their heart is false. The way is
wrong. God has given them every opportunity to repent and yet they have not.

Look at verse 13…

“Because you have trusted in your own way…”

What we learn from this passage is we reap what we sow. There are some scary descriptions of
Israel here:

● A false heart (v.2)
● Self Sufficient (v.3a)
● They do not fear God (v. 3b)

It is scary because we can get here so easily. When these things define our life - even if we are
going through the motions of walking with God - we are not walking with God. They do not lead
us anywhere good. They lead us away from God not toward God.

God desires a true heart, dependency, and a reverent fear of Him that shapes our whole lives…
and things just go better when we do things God’s way.

What are you reaping? Maybe an equally good question… What are you sowing?
