Hosea 2:14-23

Today’s Passage: Hosea 2:14-23

The book of Hosea is a beautiful sad yet encouraging book. It is sad because using Hosea and
Gomer’s marriage God is showing the unfaithfulness of His people. Yet it is encouraging
because in it we see the steadfast love and faithfulness of God.

As I was studying Hosea 2:14-23 about God’s mercy and faithfulness I could not help but think
about the verse in 2 Timothy 2:13

“If we are faithless, he remains faithful— for he cannot deny himself.”

God in His character is FAITHFUL regardless of if we are living faithful in that moment or not.
That is so beautiful. This is who our God is and He ultimately proved it in Jesus dying for our sin
EVEN when we were still sinners - Romans 5:8.

I believe that we see this same thing in Hosea. As God is highlighting their unfaithfulness He
has a plan to bring them back. Take a look at the Bible Knowledge Commentary…

“Having brought Israel to a place of desperation in which she would look again to Him (v.7), the
Lord said he would take the next steps in restoring the relationship.”

He would take the next steps! Look at it!

1) Renewed Love (v.14-15)

He said He will allure (or draw) them to Him again. He will speak tenderly. He will love. He will
care. He will bring restoration and reconciliation.

2) Renewed Marriage (v.16-20)

This is fully fulfilled when Jesus comes back and creation is restored. And included in that
eternal covenant with Yahweh is righteousness, justice, love, compassion, and faithfulness.

3) Renewed Blessing (v. 21-23)

You can see the language. It is personal. The blessing is shown through an agricultural
metaphor of life and growth. I love verse 23…

“... And I will have mercy on No Mercy, and I will say to Not My People, “you are my people” and
he shall say, “you are my God.”

This is ultimately fulfilled through Jesus’ life, death and resurrection and when He returns in
glory. Oh what an exciting day that will be.

Hosea… a beautiful sad yet encouraging narrative.
