Hosea 1

Today's Passage: Hosea 1

Have you ever picked up the Bible, read something in it, and wondered if you grabbed
the wrong book? The intro to Hosea has that kind of effect on people if they don’t have
much context for the story. You might even wonder if you’re reading a transcript from a
daytime soap opera or some kind of mysterious special feature.

Despite all the up-front drama in the introduction, Hosea is a book about God’s
incredible, never-ending, (dare we say) scandalous love for His people. A book filled
with God’s broken heart over the continuous wandering and sin of His people. A love
story that depicts just how much God loves us in spite of our repeated attempts to
betray him.

Hosea 1 shows us the reality of our sin and how much it affects God. It shows the
rawness of God’s character that longs for unhindered devotion to Him alone. It shows
His steadfast grace and His faithfulness to keep His promises even when humanity
makes things go very badly.

Do you believe this to be true for you? Do you consider yourself to be loved by God to
this degree, despite your failures? Do you know just how relentless God is for your
heart? Keep reading Hosea and you’ll see for yourself just how deep the Father’s love is
for you.

Wow. I mean even the first paragraph is confusing. I tried different versions even! Lol. My first thought was that “promiscuous “ must mean something other than what I think it means. It made me read ahead. I wanted to get to the redemption part I just knew must be on the way!

Lord, forgive me. I take for granted your love!
