James 4:11-12

Today’s Passage: James 4:11-12

I believe James is giving us a very important reminder that will serve us well in our relationships with others and how we view ourselves...

REMEMBER YOUR ROLE. REMEMBER YOUR POSITION.

Look at what he says:
       ●    Do not speak evil.
       ●    Do not judge.

Why? There is only one lawgiver and one judge and it's not us. It’s Jesus Christ.

Judging does not mean to recognize sin. It does not mean to call out sin and call people up in their relationship with God. Judgment occurs in the heart. It is when we elevate ourselves over someone and say “I am fundamentally better than you. I would never do that.”

THAT. IS. NOT. TRUE.

We are all capable of more sin than we think we are. So, who are we to judge our
neighbor?

People around us are our neighbors and we should treat them as such. That is how
we should view someone. Not as enemies but as neighbors.

Again this does not mean we do not call out sin... Matthew 18 and Galatians 6 say otherwise but this does mean that the heart in which we call out and call up is for someone’s good... with love and care... for the purpose of restoration.

It is easy to slip into judgment internally. When it occurs we have to check ourselves and check our heart. Jesus was crucified to forgive and transform.
