James 1:5-8

Today's Passage: James 1:5-8

What do you think it means to be wise? Many claim to be wise in our world today - wise from life experiences, but that is not what it means to be spiritually or biblically wise. Proverbs tells us that true wisdom comes from the Lord and that we ought to, seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures” (Prov 2:4). True wisdom is to be prized above all that this world has to offer us, which makes James 1:5 so sweet to believers.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” James 1:5

This verse should comfort us no matter our situation. He doesn’t reserve wisdom for those who already have their lives put together, or the religious elite - he gives freely to all! So if you lack wisdom, if you’re unsure of what to do next, or if you’re feeling stagnant in your faith - ask the Lord for wisdom. Ask, and God will graciously provide. He is not stingy with his wisdom or provision. He is not trying to trick you ask him for something he doesn’t have. He wants to abundantly supply you with real-godly wisdom. This is good news because we all could desperately use more wisdom from God.

The only thing required for such a request is faith. Do you believe that God is who he says he is or not? This promise to supply wisdom is reserved for those who believe that God is able to make good on such a promise. This is similar to his salvation, which is given only to those who believe that Jesus is the Lord and is raised from the dead.

So the important question is, do you believe that God is the God of all wisdom and is willing and able to supply you with his wisdom?

If so - then are you asking him for wisdom on a regular/daily basis?

Such a great reminder to always ask God for wisdom in life's puzzles, difficulties, overwhelming moments, etc! I know that He has all wisdom and that He's willing to give it to us, and I know there've been times when I've prayed for wisdom and He's given it. So why don't I ask Him immediately in life's daily puzzling difficulties? It's a great question, and I think I need to form a new habit there!
