Ecclesiastes 1

Today's Passage: Ecclesiastes 1

First, here is a video to watch about the entire book of Ecclesiastes!

As the video said, the author of this book calls everything in life something like a vapor, implying that it looks solid but when you try to grab it, it slips through your fingers. This word is used 38 times throughout this short book, because it’s referring to all of the ways we try to find meaning apart from God.

The first chapter describes first the repetitious, enduring activity of God’s creation over centuries, and compares it to the actions of man that does not produce a legacy. The author concludes that this cycle is wearisome, and that really nothing is new and nothing will be remembered. So the author then begins a quest for what is significant in this life, and this quest is what the rest of the chapters in this book describe.

So how do you live life in the midst of the passing things we spend our time on? Ultimately, we must truly love God. Through this, we can enjoy His gifts, be used by Him for His Kingdom, and actually be a part of something that outlasts us.

What is your source of significance? What would someone who watches you daily say it is?

That last question is great Kaitlin. Are our actions consistent with whAt we want our significance to be?
