Romans 15:14-33

Today's Passage: Romans 15:14-33
20 and thus I make it my ambition to preach the gospel, not where Christ has already been named, lest I build on someone else's foundation, 21 but as it is written,
“Those who have never been told of him will see,
and those who have never heard will understand.” Romans 15:20-21
These verses provide great Biblical context for our church during October Missions Month. Paul had a distinct call from God to advance the gospel and plant churches among the Gentiles (or the unreached of his day).
Paul was so committed to this missionary and pastoral task that it was keeping him from coming to Rome in the first place.
This is God’s heart—that his glorious rule and reign would spread throughout the whole world through the proclamation of the gospel and the establishment of healthy churches. This is not just a New Testament idea—the verse that Paul quoted in verse 21 is from Isaiah 52:10.
Missions did not begin with the Great Commission—the Great Commission is simply a reminder of what God’s mission has been since the fall. God’s mission is to see his glorious rule and reign spread through the world.
How are you going to play your part? How will these truths change how you pray? How you give? Maybe even how you go?
