Romans: 11:1-24

Today's Passage: Romans 11:1-24
As Paul is commenting on the eternal state of the Jewish people, we are reminded of the unique relationship of God’s sovereignty and human responsibility in salvation. Thomas Schreiner writes, “God’s sovereignty is compatible with human responsibility. Israel should have believed the gospel and trusted in Christ, but the majority refused to do so. Still, God’s saving promises will be fulfilled.”
Paul has a strong desire that the Jews would come to faith in Christ, as we saw in 9:3—”For I could wish that I myself were accursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my brothers, my kinsmen according to the flesh.”
One of the main things Paul is saying in this section of text today is that because the Jews rejected Christ, Gentiles (like us) were able to be grafted in to the family of God. This is ultimately meant to lead more Jewish people back to Christ!
Praise God, that through Christ, sinners are able to be brought into the family of God! As confusing as passages like these can be, one point of application can be to continue in prayer for those in our life who don’t know Christ. Praying that God would bring them to salvation, and that God would help us have gospel conversations that God uses in ways that we can’t.
