Psalm 46

Today's Passage: Psalm 46

1 John 2:17, “The world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.”

Psalm 46 is very much a representation of 1 John 2:17. David talks about how the earth will quake and the mountains will crumble, but there is a city that cannot be destroyed. A holy city where God dwells forever.

I love the parallels of Psalm 46:4-5 to Revelation 22:1-5 too. Revelation 22:1-2b says, “Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb through the middle of the street of the city…”, which sounds so similar to verse 4.

I want you to go read Revelation 21:22-22:5. I want you to spend time reflecting on the beauty and glory of Heaven. Read all the details and spend time picturing it in your mind (or draw it out if you are artistic).

There is going to come a day when this world will pass away; no more sadness, anxiety, death, or pain (PRAISE GOD). But don’t let our longing for Heaven lead to laziness. Let it drive us toward mission.

Both great passages! I love the song “Lord of Hosts” by Shane and Shane that covers this chapter! Give it a listen!
