Psalm 28

Today's Passage: Psalm 28

Have you ever been through a difficult time? I know that’s a dumb question because we all have. But what about right now? Are you in a season where it feels like you are on a boat in the middle of a storm? You feel helpless and out of control?

Well maybe you aren’t in a tough season but maybe you just got out of one or about to go through one. Wherever you are, I think Psalm 28 is important for us as we go through difficult seasons. I want to give you 4 things to do:

1. Cry out to God out of your sense of need (v. 1-2)

David recognizes he needs God in this moment, so what does he do? He cries out for help.

2. Name the struggles you are facing (v. 3-5)

David becomes specific with what is challenging him. God already knows what is happening, but sometimes we need to be reminded of what is really going on.

3. After crying out and casting your cares on God, then rejoice (v. 6-7)

It seems weird to rejoice in struggles, but God does not change depending on your circumstances. I heard this at camp from Ed Newton, “Sometimes God doesn’t change our circumstances, instead He changes us in the midst of circumstances.” Maybe God is trying to teach us something in the difficult season, maybe He is trying to make us more like Jesus. We need to find ways to rejoice in God during the tough times.

4. Our personal need and joy should branch into a loving concern for others (v. 8-9)

Even though it might be difficult season, there are people who are dealing with the same thing. And our suffering can be a part of our story that helps someone come to know Jesus. Your suffering is never wasted if you use it to glorify God.

I hope this is encouraging to you today. If you are going through a rough season and want someone to talk to, email me at brice@cpclex.org and we can set up a time to meet!

Thank you Brice! It is ok to cry out even when it hurts and is frustrating for whatever reason. Our Lord hears us. It makes me feel secure in Christ's love that He knows as He has suffered much worse on the cross for me. I know I can celebrate even though the trial is rough. I can even rest in joy.
