Psalm 27

Today's Passage: Psalm 27
Here’s a universal truth: life can be challenging. Life’s challenges obviously look different for everyone, but life isn’t perfect, people aren’t perfect, families aren’t perfect. It doesn’t matter what socio-economic class you belong to, life’s challenges exist.
The question then becomes: how do you live for and honor God in the midst of a world that is broken? How do you look to God when things aren’t going your way?
This Psalm encourages us in a few ways:
1. Do not fear.
God is: light, salvation, the stronghold of our life. We can have confidence because of who God is and what God has done for us in Christ.
2. God is with you.
God has given us the gift of his presence with us in the Holy Spirit. Even though you might walk through dark seasons in your life, this does not indicate that God is absent. He is ever present with you. He cares for you. He loves you. Be encouraged that God is near to the broken hearted and wants to walk with you through darkness.
3. Wait for the Lord.
13 I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord
in the land of the living!
14 Wait for the Lord;
be strong, and let your heart take courage;
wait for the Lord!
No matter what you are going through, God know and God cares. Look to Him. Pray to Him. Meditate on His Word. Allow the gospel to direct your thoughts and lead you to trust in the Lord.

Often times when I go through tough seasons it feels as if God is not near. That feeling is so limiting of God though because it is saying that when life is going well it is a reflection of his love for me. But that is false! His love and presence are constant DESPITE my circumstances. He is an ever present help in times of trouble.
This is one of several psalms that is my favorite. I had often read it during the difficult last 2 years. Great blog message!
"Wait patiently for the Lord." I'm in a season of waiting right now and some days I'm anything but patient. I'm anxious, nervous, or fearful and I'd rather know immediately when the waiting will be over instead of waiting patiently. I think the fact that the scripture adds the word patiently is important and it gives direction for how you should wait on the Lord. The word patient in this verse humbles me and redirects my focus on how we're called to wait. How we wait matters.
