Psalm 16
Today’s Passage: Psalm 16
As I was reading this Psalm, I began to recognize how much God had done for David. Listen to all of this:
• God provides refuge and safety (v. 1)
• Everything good comes from God (v. 2)
• God is and gives inheritance (v. 5a)
• God guards what is entrusted to us (5b)
• God gives good gifts and a wonderful inheritance (v. 6)
• God guides and instructs (v. 7)
• God is with His people (v. 8)
• God gives gladness (v. 9)
• God will not abandon His people (v. 10)
• God shows the way of life (v. 11a)
• God’s presence is with us, which provides fullness of joy (v. 11b)
• God gives eternal pleasures (v. 11c)
God didn’t do all of this just for David. God still provides these things for His children. And the amazing part is that God does not do this based upon who we are. Instead, He does all of this out of the abundance of His love and mercy. God does not owe us anything. Yet, He gives more than we could ask for or think of.
For us, I think there are 3 things we need to do:
1) Recognize how God is at work – God does so much in our lives; let us not take those for granted
2) Walk in obedience to Him – God is a good God, a loving Father, and He has given instructions on how to live for our sake. We need to walk in them because of our love for God.
3) Praise His name – Praise should be on our lips each day. Even in the worst times and hardest moments, God is still good and near.
Take some time and reflect on what God has given to you. I would love to see in the comments the thing you are most thankful for right now!

This was a beautiful psalm and devotion to start my day. The three things to do that you listed are right on target. These were definitely applied on our Panama trip. As I start a new school year, I plan on continuing to apply these in my teaching. There are simple steps to take but so vital to helping us keep a positive mindset and glorifying God in our daily lives. It was very evident in our Panama team that being intentional to be uplifting to others is necessary because, as humans, we tend toward the negative, grumpiness, and complaining. When you make the effort to seek God and follow in obedience to his Spirit's leading, you will be more aware of Him at work and have much to praise Him for.
As I study this Psalm, my mind keeps coming back to how thankful I am for God's rest (v. 9) that is possible because of my security in who God is and what God has done and what He will continue to do.
Thanks Brice!
