Psalm 14

Today’s Passage: Psalm 14

Psalm 14 gives us a window into sin. It lays out several principles and thoughts about sin. I pray that these penetrate your heart and call you up toward a greater relationship with Jesus.

1. SIN IS FOOLISHNESS (v.1)
Sin ultimately comes from our foolishness. It is absolutely insane for us to rebel against the God of the universe. Yet we do. Why? We are (sometimes) fools.

2. SIN COMES FROM DENYING GOD & NOT HAVING HIM IN HIS RIGHTFUL PLACE (v.1-2)
Look at the Psalm… “The fool says in their heart, “There is no God.” Sin stems from rebellion… from denying God.

Maybe you say, “I don’t deny God!” GOOD! Second question… Is He in His rightful place? Because sin is found there too. Look at verse 2…

“The LORD looks down from heaven on the children of man, to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God.

Does that define your life? Do you seek after God? Is that the core of your heart this week?

3. SIN IS AN EVERYONE PROBLEM (v.2-3)
These verses echo Romans 3:10-12 where Paul reminds us that all of us have sinned. There is not one of us that do not have the sin disease. We need a savior.

Well praise God… Look at verse 7…

4. SALVATION IS FROM THE LORD (v.7)
God has a plan. His name is Jesus. He is the savior from Zion. He is the one who restores. He is why we rejoice.

Praise God. How has sin started to creep back into your life? How do you need to resubmit to Jesus today? How can you find hope in your salvation?
