Psalm 8

Today’s Passage: Psalm 8

This Psalm leads us to praise God - for who He is and for what He has done. It leads us to look at Him and smile, to worship Him, and to glorify Him. When we start to grasp some of the core attributes of God, as David does here, there is not a more natural response. So, what do we see from Psalm 8 about God?

1) He is MAJESTIC (v.1, 9)

The Psalmist calls God’s name majestic. Names are important in Scripture. They surmised the core of a person. David called His name majestic.

To be majestic is to be beautiful, deserving of admiration and respect. This is who God is.

2) He is GLORIOUS (v.1-2)

David says that His glory is above the heavens. That God is glorious means that He is worthy of all praise, honor, and worship. It means that He is exalted.

3) He is TRANSCENDENT (v.3)

He is so far above us. Not only are we not on the same playing field… we are in different stratospheres. Transcendent means beyond or above the range of normal or merely physical human experience.

Look again verses 3-4… “When I look at the heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him and the son of man that you care for him?”

4) He is LOVING and CARING (v.4-8)

Even though He is so transcendent, He cares deeply for us. He has shown us that through Jesus Christ when He set Him a little lower than the angels, crowned Him with glory and honor, and gave Him dominion.

He showed us that on the cross when He bled and died for us willingly. And now we get to live for Him. Praise God!
