Luke 19:28-44

Today's Passage: Luke 19:28-44

Today, I want to talk about something most people desire but seem to rarely have: Peace.

What is peace? Peace is the idea of wholeness. Everything that has a place is in the correct place. And it’s the confident certitude that no matter what happens everything will be alright.

And the reason why I say most people rarely have peace is because they are looking to the material world to bring it when instead they need to be looking at a person. The person of Jesus Christ.

In our passage, Jesus comes riding into Jerusalem on a donkey. This was prophesied about in Zechariah 9:9. In that day, during times of war, kings would ride to places on their warhorse. But, if they were coming in peace, a king would ride on a donkey. This picture is showing us that Jesus came to bring peace.

We then see the crowds calling out to Jesus, “Peace in Heaven”. And it’s so interesting because when Jesus was born, the angels cried out “Peace on Earth” (Luke 2:14), and now Jesus is about to be crucified and men are crying out about peace as well.

Then, as Jesus rides into Jerusalem, He begins to weep. He recognizes that so many people have missed out on peace, because they have rejected the Prince of Peace.

You cannot have peace apart from Jesus. Ephesians 2:13-14a, “But now in Christ Jesus you who were once far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For he himself is our peace.”

We will never have peace with God, with others, or peace within until Jesus becomes our peace.

What would your life look like if you had peace in all circumstances? What steps do you need to take to have peace?

This totally took me back 40 years, at the end of every service, Pastor Brown would end it with "Peace be with you!" And the whole congregation would answer "And also with you!"

Peace be with you, CPC

I find myself being at peace when I am walking out of faith and not sight. Good word today, Brice!
