Luke 17:22-37

Luke 17:22-37
When will Jesus return a second time? This question has been asked by many people, “predicted” by others, and talked about in Scripture.
The answer to this question: Nobody knows but God.
Jesus gives us warning signs in this passage (v. 26, 28-29). People will be living in their sin just as they were in the days of Noah and Lot. And like the passage says, then one day, a flood came. On another day, fire rained down from Heaven. There was nothing particularly special about those days of judgment in human eyes. God knew what He was going to do and when He was going to do it.
The same is true for Jesus’ second coming. We can speculate and research all we want and still never have the true answer.
Knowing Jesus is going to come a second time should mean we need to do two things: (1) have full assurance and expecting hearts. We can trust God is going to come get us one day and take us home forever because He has promised it. We should be excited for that! But also, (2) we need to live with urgency. There are many people who need to hear the Gospel. Many people need to hear verse 33 and realize there is a greater treasure to be had than the things of this world.
I use this quote often in my own life: We should live as if Jesus was crucified yesterday, rose today, and is coming back tomorrow.
There is a reason to celebrate, but there is also a reason to be on mission!
