Luke 8:16-21

Luke 8:16-21
As those who hear the Word of God on a regular basis and obey through the power of the Holy Spirit, we have a responsibility to show others the love of Jesus, and to teach about God’s Word. God did not “light your lamp” so you could be hidden, or save you from sin for you to be an island. When we receive God’s words as truth, we also become accountable to put it into practice.
Jesus calls us to have prepared hearts because how we hear His words matter. Are we passively listening or actively engaging, putting what we learn into practice? Luke 6:49 states, “But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.”
Just like God intended for the nation of Israel to show the rest of the world who God is and what He has done, He wants us now to show a lost world that He is a good, just God that deserves our worship. They were, and we are, set apart for His Kingdom purposes. Exodus 19:5-6 says, “Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine; and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’”
How can we do this if we are not truly learning from God’s Word, or if we are not obeying the Holy Spirit when He shows things from Scripture to us?
