Nehemiah 12:44-47

Nehemiah 12:44-47

This day for the people of Israel included three things:

1. Giving (v. 44)

During this time, the Levites and priests were to do work at the Temple. That means the people of Israel were charged to provide for them so they could eat. In our passage, people were appointed to collect the firstfruits and offerings that the people were giving. It says that the “people of Judah took joy in the priests and Levites and their work.” The people of Israel didn’t give reluctantly, but joyously.

2. Purity (v. 45)

The Levites, singers, and gatekeepers performed the service of purification that was laid out by David and Solomon. They were continuing the rules and regulations that had previously been set up.

3. Consecration (v. 47)

The definition of consecration is to make holy or set apart. They took what was given to the Levites and consecrated it. Likewise, the Levites set apart the things for the sons of Aaron.

What would our lives look like if we lived consecrated, pure, and giving lives to God? What would it look like to live lives that are holy and set apart from the world? What would it look like to live lives where we fight for purity in our thoughts, actions, and words? What would it look like to give of our time and finances joyously?

Answer: Jesus. Our lives would look a lot more like Jesus’.

Which of these three do you need to focus on in your life?
