Ezra 5

Ezra 5

The rebuilding of the Temple had stopped in chapter 4 due to some false accusations made against the Jews (4:13). But we see in chapter 5, Zerubbabel and Jeshua get back to rebuilding the Temple after many years (v. 2).

What made these guys decide to rebuild the Temple after they were told not to by the Persians? The Word of the Lord.

In verse 1, it tells us that Haggai and Zechariah are among the people. These are the same prophets that the Bible has books named after. The book of Haggai falls right into this story.

In Haggai 1, God says to Haggai, “Thus says the Lord of Hosts: These people say the time has not yet come to rebuild the house of the Lord” (v. 3)… “Go up to the hills and bring wood and build the house that I may take pleasure in it and that I might be glorified, says the Lord” (v. 8).

The people of Israel got it! They cared more about the glory of God and His commands than they did the persecution that might come their way. They knew they needed to listen to God over men, and they did it.

Are you concerned for the glory of God? In what situations do you need to make a stand for Christ?
