Genesis 41:38-57

Genesis 41:38-57

“And Pharaoh said to his servants, “can we find a man like this, in whom is the spirit of God?”

In high school did your school do senior superlatives? If you have no clue what I’m talking about - superlatives are attributes you assign to people based on what uniquely sets them apart from others. Most likely to succeed, class clown (I have actually won this award in middle school), most athletic, the life of the party, etc. Superlatives were a fun/cheesy way of recognizing individuals for what made them stand out. If someone were to assign you a superlative now, what would it be?

In the case of Joseph, he was called the most “discerning and wise.” Pharaoh looked high and low for someone who could help him interpret a troubling dream when finally he discovers Joseph. Through the simple interaction between Pharaoh and Joseph, Pharaoh comes to two conclusions. One, God was clearly with Joseph, and two, Joseph possessed supreme wisdom and discernment. What did Joseph do/how did he handle himself before Pharaoh that communicated this so strongly?

What uniquely set apart Joseph was his faith and trust in God almighty. But this didn’t happen overnight. His faith was tested and refined through trials, abuse, abandonment, wrongful imprisonment, and suffering, yet through it all - he knew that God was with him and would deliver him. Let me ask you a question, how would your walk with the Lord look different if what stood out to people the most was your faith? You and I can make that change today. The same God who was with Joseph in Egypt is EVEN CLOSER to us right now. He dwells within us and wants us to grow close with him.

What is one area of your faith you need to grow in?
What is one step you can take to grow in that area?
Do you think discipleship would help you grow in that area?
