Genesis 30:25-43

Genesis 30:25-43

So far in the book of Genesis we have read many stories of trickery, deceit, and dishonesty. Today is no different. Here we see Laban try to trick Jacob into staying or at least, leaving with very little. Laban realized that God was blessing him because of Jacob and did not want to let him go.

They made a deal where Jacob’s wages would be the spotted lambs and goats. Laban took them all away. But God still continued to bless Jacob regardless.

A few things I think we can take away from this passage today:

1) PEOPLE NOTICE WHEN GOD IS BLESSING YOU!

Walk with God. Let Him lead your life. Let Him lead your family and your choices. People notice. It is a great witness for the truthfulness of who God is and how worth it He is.

2) CHOOSE HONESTY AND LEAVE THE REST TO GOD!

Jacob did not fret when Laban tried to take advantage of him. He did not try to get back at him. He trusted God and God’s justice. He chose to live with INTEGRITY here and leave the rest to God. Sometimes we are faced with choices at work, home, or school where we feel wronged and we want to get back at others. We need to leave that to God and choose honesty and integrity.

Ultimately, this is showing us that God is good and cannot be mocked. When Satan tried to trick Him and thought that he had won, he had not. Jesus came roaring back from the grave and received what was rightfully His. We can have hope in God’s character today and God’s justice.

Group Discussion:
1) Where have you felt wronged? How did you trust God?
2) What are practical ways you can trust God even when you feel wronged by others?
