Genesis 26

Genesis 26
In chapter 26 we get to see the story of God’s people move into the next generation. God made his promise to Abraham, but in this passage, the Lord appears to Isaac two different times to remind him that God’s promises now apply to him. Despite being a part of God’s chosen family, Isaac is having a hard time trusting the Lord in uncertain times. See, there was a severe famine in the land and Isaac was searching for a land that had food. After that, he gets kicked out of the land and has to fight with herdsmen over land to settle in.
When times get tough we often think that God is far off, but this story reminds us that God is with us in every circumstance. Psalm 46 says, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” See the famine in the land and the quarreling over property may have caused Isaac to doubt, but God had not abandoned Isaac due to the circumstances, nor has abandoned us.
In this life, we will face many hardships and may suffer greatly, but we serve a God who has overcome the world and who is faithful! John 16:33 says, “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” Are you struggling with doubt in your faith? Then look again to the cross and the empty tomb of Jesus. Be reminded that your savior loved you so much that he gave up his life so that you would not perish, but have eternal hope and life.
