Genesis 24:1-67

Genesis 24:1-67
Genesis 24 is coming towards the end of the life of Abraham. As he approaches the end, Abraham is attempting to find a wife for his son Isaac. He has specific instructions that his wife should not come from the land of Canaan. So the servant of Abraham created a test to see who God’s choice for Isaac might be. God delivered and kept his promise. God’s sovereignty is on full display here.
God provided a woman named Rebekah to be the wife of Isaac. This story is a beautiful love story. The end of the chapter is almost like it is out of a movie: Isaac. Alone in a field, praying. He lifts up his eyes, and behold! The woman of his dreams. The drama is real, but there is more going on here.
Abraham expressed confidence that God would provide a wife for his son, especially when his servant was worried he would not be able to find her. Ultimately, Abraham was confident that God would provide a wife for Isaac based on the promise that Abraham would be the father of many nations. Would God really go to all the trouble of giving them with a child in their old age, against all odds, and then abandon his promise one generation later?
Today, remember that God is a God that keeps his promises. He is in complete control and is completely good, no matter what our circumstances tell us. Everything we go through in our lives is to make us more like Christ. As we go through the trials of our life, may we remember who God has told us that he is.
Discussion: What are you currently going through that you need to remember the promises of God? What are you going to do as an act of faith today?
