Genesis 11:1-9

Genesis 11:1-9
Three ideas I want you to see from this passage:
1. Pride is dangerous.
We see in the story that all people had one language, and the ability of these people was astonishing. It was so astonishing that God looked at the city and said, “this is only the beginning of what they will do. And nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them” (v. 6b). Their downfall was that they sought their own glory, instead of God’s. They wanted to “make a name for ourselves” (v. 4). This takes us to our next point:
2. God is merciful.
The characteristic of God on display here is His mercy. God knew that if He did not do something, the people would continue in their pride. So instead of allowing that, God in His mercy, caused confusion amongst languages and dispersed people across the world. This dispersion allowed for different ethnicities, cultures, and races, all of which, has shown the beauty of God. And, even though God dispersed in this story, the ending is that all would be joined together again in Heaven. People from every tribe, language, and tongue.
3. Unity is powerful.
It is amazing to see what can happen when people join together as one to complete a mission. There is no telling what the Church could do if everyone is of one mind and one spirit working together to accomplish the mission of God. But to have unity, you must have humility.
Which of these three points sticks out to you most?
