Proverbs 22

Proverbs 22

What are you living for? If today you took an inventory of the way that you spend your time, what you spend your money on, what you give up sleep for, what you think about most, and what your number one ambition is…what would you find? Would you be happy with the answer?

The answer is what you are living for and what you are worshiping.

Solomon is reminding us today that… THE PERSON LIVING THE WISE LIFE LIVES FOR THE RIGHT THINGS & IN THE RIGHT WAY.

What are some things that you see others living for around you? What are you living for? How does that align with God’s Word?

Look at what Solomon teaches us in Proverbs 22…

1) Don't sacrifice a good reputation to get ahead (v.1,16)
2) Live first and foremost for your creator (v.2, 4b)
3) Live with humility (v.4)
4) Live an upright life (v.5)
5) Lead your family (v.6)
6) Lead a pure and gracious life (v.11)
7) Be a learner + apply God's truth to every part of your life (v.17)

What if we lived this kind of life? What if this directed HOW we live and WHAT we live for? We would be a light to the world. We, as Christians, would stand out. We would fulfill what Jesus commanded us to be in Matthew 5:14-16…

“14 “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”

How can  you apply this to your life today?

Family Discussion:
1) How should knowing God change the way that we live?
2) What does it mean to listen to God?
3) What does it mean to apply what God tells us (HINT: Obey)?

Yesterday Jehosaphat and I celebrated 25 years of marriage. This has been a blessing. And it has been a hard journey because life is hard. We have so many friends whose marriages have not survived the years. By applying the principles in this chapter, we can live lives and have marriages that glorify God. Wise choices and humility in relationships will take you far. As my dear husband likes to say, "Be a blessing and get blessed."
