Proverbs 12

Proverbs 12
Proverbs 12 talks a lot about receiving advice. To be honest, this is something I tend to have a hard time with. When receiving advice, especially constructive criticism, I get on the defense and let pride take over. The Lord has used many godly people in my life to help me work through this. There have been plenty of times that I have left discipleship meetings frustrated because I received advice on how to overcome a sin struggle and I didn’t want to take it or didn’t want to admit to myself that I actually needed to change something. 100% of the time I realized during the week that my discipler was right and I did need to address the sin issue in my life and their advice always helped.
Solomon writes about this issue saying some pretty bold statements that remind us of the importance of seeking and receiving godly counsel. Verse 15 says, “The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice.” Part of growing in wisdom is learning to listen to those who are trying to help us be better whether that is in our job, school or walk with the Lord.
The Lord has grown me a lot in this area and I am working on being more teachable and meek. There is strength in admitting you need counsel and admitting when you are wrong. It takes humility to do this.

Thanks for your honesty today, Sarah. I can relate to everything you shared. I have learned that we can always learn from other people's perspectives. You're never too old to learn. If you ignore others' sincere observations you will miss out on a blessing. I always have to remind myself that God works through others.
Thank you for your honesty Sarah. Lindsay you said things I think as well! Sarah I agree it's something many people, including myself, can struggle with .... It's awesome that you recognize this because oh what benefits we receive when we are open to receive advice, and listen to His instructions. Being teachable is one of the keys in growing in our relationship and knowledge of God!
I do have a few people in my life who help keep me accountable. Like many, I may at the time not be thrilled to hear their advice but it doesn't take long for me to be grateful that they love me enough to tell me
I appreciate your transparency, Sarah. It's difficult to learn, and I still struggle at times. As in anything, if my eyes are focused on Jesus-I see truth, if not, I see me!
Great blog message!
