Proverbs 9

Proverbs 9
Enjoy this Jumpstart devotional today from Tim Parsons - Founding Pastor.
What is wisdom? Knowledge is information – but wisdom is the ability to use that information. It’s what enables us to make good decisions. Wisdom is one of the most important tenets of our lives.
How do I get wisdom? Knowledge I dig for – but wisdom is something I must ask for. When God gave Solomon (the author of Proverbs) the choice of what he wanted – he asked God for wisdom. Wisdom comes as a gift from God.
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” James 1:5
Today’s reading reminds us of wisdom’s importance in our lives. Wisdom will multiply your days and add years to your life. If you become wise, you will be the one to benefit. If you scorn wisdom, you will be the one to suffer. (v.11-12)
Where does wisdom start? Wisdom begins with recognizing God as God in your life and respecting His role. Getting to know your Creator starts you down the path of wisdom. That’s why reading His Word like this is so vital.
Fear of the LORD is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgement. (v.10)
Do you have wisdom? Do you see the supreme importance of it? Ask God for it today – then begin to seek Him and learn more about Him and His ways. Time in His word is a good place to start.
Take a moment right now and ask God for wisdom in your life. Ask Him for His direction on current decisions…
How can you more diligently seek to have knowledge of the Holy One?
Family Discussion:
1) What is one way you can obey God this week?
2) How do we choose to listen to ourselves over God? Why is this a bad choice?

Wow thank you for posting this from Tim.
And major decisions seem constant in our lives. Do we apply for a different job or position? Move to another state? How to help a family member? Who to marry, where to go to college...
Lord grant us wisdom and courage to trust you!
Seeing Tim's name on this message made my heart smile!
I think Proverbs 9 and 2 give us the answer to the question of how to grow in knowledge of the Lord. Proverbs 9 says "the Fear of the the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (applied knowledge)." Proverbs 2 says that fearing the Lord comes from receiving the Word, making your ear attentive to wisdom, and inclining your heart to understanding.
If we combine the two passages we have the answer for how to grow in knowledge of the Lord and then the instruction to apply that knowledge to grow in wisdom. I'm learning so much through these scripture readings and questions!
Thank you for taking the time to post. Being in The Word of God is never wasted time.1) One way to obey God this week is to draw unto God and not allow the cares of this world distract us from our relationship with Jesus.2) We choose to listen to ourselves by rationalization rather than asking God for clear discernment on our choices. This is bad because the human mind can be a trap. We often see everything in the natural rather than seeing with our spiritual eyes.
Answer to question 2: We are constantly on the go and surrounded by so much noise and things fighting for our attention. We often do not realize we are making decisions on our own by what others say or do. Even if we only have 5 minutes, we need to find a quiet place and seek what God would have us do.
Loved seeing this was from Tim. I will forever be grateful for how well he taught and led us! You can tell how well he led by seeing how well our staff is doing!
Amen, Diana! CPC is so blessed!
Tim brought my attention to this principle about wisdom and I have been asking for it in prayer almost every single day since. It just makes sense to go straight to the source. Have a blessed day Church!
Wonderful message from Pastor Tim! This blog post is a great takeaway for me today: to pray for wisdom and direction from God about important decisions, etc.
