Revelation 19

November Memory Verse: "Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone  hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with them, and they with me." Revelation 3:20 (NIV)

Revelation 19

Have you ever been to Niagara Falls or stood right next to a major waterfall? There is a huge waterfall in Ecuador that I have been to several times. Before the waterfall was even within sight I could feel the ground rumbling. As we got closer the rumble became a roar, and when I actually got near the waterfall it was deafening. It was terrifyingly majestic. Chapter nineteen describes the songs of victory in Heaven like the sound of many waters and loud thunder! Can you imagine what that will be like?

So what’s happening that is causing these terrifyingly majestic songs in Heaven? This has an interesting answer. Chapter eighteen describes the fall of Babylon, but the beast and the kings of the earth were still alive. God had begun to judge the Earth, but the beast was still preparing for battle. Heaven started singing before Jesus appears in verse 11 and defeats the beast and his army. See, they worshipped because they knew the Rider was coming (v11). They sang because they knew who was on the throne, reigning (v1, 6). They rejoiced in victory because they knew salvation belonged to God alone (v1).

As the people of God in 2021, we get to rehearse this! You may be feeling defeated or persecuted. You may feel weak or tired, but you can worship God because you know the Rider is coming. You can rejoice because he is “faithful and true” (v11). You can lay down your burdens and anxiety and sing in victory because you know God is on his throne and salvation belongs to him alone. He will put an end to sin and death and if your faith is in Christ, then he will welcome you into His arms.

So how can you put this into practice this week? Be committed to worshiping God despite current circumstances. Lift up your song to him now because you know how the story ends. He gets the victory/glory. How could you not worship him?

My devotionals this morning brought a song to my mind- Joyful Noise by Matt Maher. Listening to it right now. Great way to worship the Lord this morning. Give it a listen if you have a few minutes!

Good word today Joe! I haven’t been to Ecuador but I’ve been to Niagara Falls several times. The analogy resonates with me. On this Thanksgiving Eve, I’m thankful God brought you and your sweet family to CPC. None of us could have ever imagined the events that would unfold in your first week at our church but we know God brought you to us for this season. Happy Thanksgiving CPC Family and Jumpstart readers. We have much in which to be thankful. God bless!
