Revelation 10

November Memory Verse: "Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone  hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with them, and they with me." Revelation 3:20 (NIV)

Revelation 10

This chapter in Scripture takes place at an interlude between the sixth and seventh trumpet blows. The blowing of the seventh trumpet reigns in the end of the kingdom of sin and the beginning of the Kingdom of the Lord on earth. To me, this interlude serves a dramatic purpose: God gives more time for the people left on earth to repent.

The rainbow over the head of the mighty angel reminds us of the Noahic covenant, God’s promise that He would not use a worldwide flood to destroy the earth again, no matter how wicked mankind got. However, He will not allow the sin of the world to go unpunished forever. The punishment for sin is imminent.

In verse 9, John is commanded to eat the scroll that the mighty angel is holding. This act graphically illustrates the taking in of God’s Word. The physical reactions that John has (a sweet taste in his mouth but bitterness in his stomach) are the reactions that every believer should have in response to God’s judgement: the sweet anticipation of seeing God glorified and us victorious, and at the same time, the bitterness of seeing God’s wrath poured out on those who reject Christ.

Friends, there is still time to tell those in our lives who don’t know Jesus about the Gospel. God desires that all people be saved and know the truth (1 Timothy 2:4). He is merciful in giving us reminders of His love and giving us the time we have now. Just as John is commanded to “again prophesy about many peoples and nations and tongues and kings”, we are commanded to go and share the “sweet” Gospel to the world, knowing it will be accepted by some and rejected by others.

Praise God, we will have victory in the Lord regardless of what happens to us on this earth. Let’s share this news with as many people as possible while we are still able.
