1 Corinthians 11

August Memory Verse: So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31 (NIV)
This is a previously scheduled post that was written several weeks ago.
We encourage you to continue to pray for Tim and his family.
Read: 1 Corinthians 11

I hope you’ve enjoyed these first couple of weeks in the book of Corinthians.  Chapter 11 is all about order – order in the home – order in the church – order in our personal lives – and order in our worship (the Lord’s Supper).  This is the passage I refer to every time we take Communion – it’s warnings to the body about the seriousness of this covenant.  God is a God of order.  You see it in the way He created the world (Genesis 1-2), in His commandments to His people (Exodus 20), the way He established leadership throughout time, and even in the Scripture Itself (as in Numbers).

For God is not a God of disorder but of peace, as in all the meetings of God's holy people. 1 Corinthians 14:33

If we were having a cup of coffee, there would be much for us to discuss from this chapter.  I’ll let you read it – it’s pretty straightforward – and I’ll let you make the coffee.  I just have time to focus on one idea – and it’s found in the opening verse.

And you should imitate me, just as I imitate Christ. (v.1)

What a bold statement made by the Apostle Paul.  This certainly implies that although just a man, he was living to please God and demonstrated this to those around.  See the cycle – the discipler imitates Christ leaving a good example for the disciplee to follow.

Is this true of you?  With those you work with or go to school with?  With your close friends who know you best?  With your family?  Can you say follow me as I follow Christ?

If not – what needs to change today in your life?  I hope those words will track you down all day today – and you’ll think about them in everything you do and say.  God make us a people who can boldly make this proclamation!

Asking God that Tim and the others feel all the prayers around them! Lord keep them and heal them with Your power and for Your glory. Amen

This passage is easy starting off to distract someone like me from what is important. It isn't that I should cover my head in 2021 when I am in public praying. What would the equivalent be today? A woman wearing see-through or scantily clad clothing? I don't know, but it seems this is all about being a good and humble example to our families and to the world. We shouldn't distract others from what is important. It isn't about us; it isn't how great we are; it is not how we look. God commanded that we go and tell the good news. There is also warning to those who are a stumbling block to someone else trying to see Jesus.

I couldn't agree more with Christy on all accounts. Praying that God will give healing to the entire Parsons's family.

The last week, especially has given me a lot of time to reflect on what it means to be a godly example and that example our friend and pastor is, has been, and continues to be. Though ultimately Jesus is our example, our pastor and staff consistently model total devotion to Jesus. Which brings me to that question facing me......do I? Am I a facilitator of unity among believers and an imitator of Jesus? If I am honest I have to admit/confess that distractions often lead me away from that mindset/heart set.

More than ever, we the body need each other and should continue our mission of sharing the gospel with those who have not yet accepted Jesus with love and boldness. Praying this for me and all at CPC this morning.

Amen Christy & Tina! After the week & weekend we've all just experienced it was comforting to read a commentary by our lead pastor. May Christ be glorified in the reading of His word and the many prayers for the Parsons family.

Praying today for Tim, Susan, and the rest of the Parsons family.

Tim, your example to "imitate me, just as I imitate Christ" has been instrumental in my life. I hope to pass that on to my children and disciples the way you have. Grateful for you, Tim!

Prayers lifted up. I'm grateful for great imitators at this church and the great care that is taken when it comes to preparing and partaking in communion
