Matthew 27

August Memory Verse: So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31 (NIV)
Read: Matthew 27
Today’s Jumpstart is a passage that’s hard for me to read. I know I should glory in the cross and I do – but the suffering of my Lord is not something I enjoy thinking about. The cross was brutal – the suffering was overwhelming.
I encourage you to read it slowly and carefully today. Take time to think about it. Try and discover a new detail you missed before.
Let me lead you in a Bible Study…

Let me lead you in a Bible Study…
- Who was Simon and where is Cyrene?
- What do you know about Golgotha?
- What was “bitter gall” and why did Jesus refuse to drink it?
- Was there any significance in gambling for Jesus clothes? (Psalm 22)
- What happened when Jesus died? (v.52-53)
- Why was it important that Jesus was buried?
- What about the guard at the tomb? Why was that important?

Good Bible study and exercise as we remember the cross today Tim. God bless the Colorado Mission Team as you work this week. I pray many gospel seeds are planted this week and that a bountiful harvest will come in the Lord's good time.
Thanks Mike! Excited to be here. Missed seeing you yesterday. Thankful for the cross - it's the reason we live!

So much significance in our reading today. What stood out to me was Jesus' refusal to take the wine and gall, the implication being that He wanted to take on the undiluted cost of the payment for our sins. I am beyond grateful for everything Jesus did for us, as unworthy and wretched as we are. All honor and glory be to God our Savior!
Right On Lindsay. Thanks for being a faithful reader
Thanks for leading us through that study Tim. It forced me to slow down and really think about what I was reading. It is not the first time but it is good for me to feel the weight of what Jesus did for me.
Something that went through my mind was in relation to what happened at His death. "The Temple vail was torn top to bottom" "and many saints rose up and entered the city appearing to many." Although I can't seem to find it right now, one verse said many of the priests were turning to the faith. I can only imagine what was going on among the Priests at this time!
