Romans 15:14-33

June Memory Verse: All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV)

Romans… A Gentle Reminder.

Sometimes we all just need to be reminded… reminded of truth, reminded that we are loved, reminded that God is good, reminded of our goals… reminded. We often subtly lose perspective and need our sights to be altered again. This is a big reason why Paul wrote the letter of Romans… to remind.

Paul took this opportunity to remind the Romans, and us, of several important things that we often lose sight of…

1) THE GOSPEL (v.15)

Paul, throughout the first 14.5 chapters took time to remind and teach deeply on the grace of God and the Gospel. He reminded us of how we are truly made right with God… and it is not about us trying harder to impress him; it is about resting in Him and His grace.

2) OUR ROLE (v.16)

We often lose sight of our role… to be a minister of the truth of Jesus to those around us. Paul understood that this was his job… no more… no less. Simply to be a minister of the gospel. He dedicated his life to sharing with others and living out the gospel and we are to do the same.

3 WHERE SUCCESS COMES FROM (v.16b-19)

Success does not come from us… it comes from God (1 Corinthians 3:5-9). It is about God working through us for His mission - to reach people. Success is not looking good enough or even having the masses. Success = changed lives through the gospel. As we are faithful to that end God works through us.

What else has Paul through Romans reminded you of when it comes to your relationship with Jesus?

Paul has reminded me of Jesus' redeeming power through the gospel. So often I reflect Romans 14 in being quick to pass judgement on others, doubting their chance of salvation, and ultimately that leads to me doubting God's healing power. Everyday I wake up and look in the mirror and am reminded that I wasn't worthy to be saved, I wasn't worthy to be redeemed but the Lord gifted me with that salvation anyways. We were just talking about this last night in our summer study about how we need to take any chance we get to share the gospel with others just like it talks about in v.16. I pray that each of us takes this and puts it into practice because this is what we are called to do!

Thanks Tabor! So encouraging! You are so right. We have to fight to have the right perspective on the gospel and all it means!
