Romans 8:1-30

May Memory Verse: And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28 NIV
Read: Romans 8:1-30
As I read Romans 8, I was reminded of these words of Jesus in John 16:7 that says, “Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I don’t go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.”
Romans 8 describes to us what a Spirit-filled life should look like. And we see all that the Spirit does for us:
As amazing as it might be to have Jesus walk on earth with us, I think I would have to agree with His statement in John 16. It was better that He went away so that He could send us the Holy Spirit. Jesus wanted to send the Holy Spirit to us, because He knew how important and powerful the Spirit is.
For us, how are we doing walking in the Holy Spirit? Have we let the Holy Spirit free us from the power of sin? Are we letting Him control our thoughts and actions? Do we have peace in our lives because of Him? Do we recognize that we are children of God and co-heirs with Jesus? Do we allow the Spirit to help us in our weakness?
Being filled with the Spirit does not mean getting more of Him, you already have all of Him when you came into a relationship with Jesus. Being filled with the Spirit means giving more of yourself to Him.
In this next week, how could you work on being filled with the Holy Spirit?

- Set us free from the power of sin (v. 2, 13)
- Controls our thoughts and actions (v. 5-9)
- Gives us life and peace (v. 6, 11)
- Positions us as children of God (v. 14-17)
- Helps us in our weakness (v. 26a)
- Intercedes for us (v. 26b-27)

One of my favorite passages in all the Bible!
I'm with Tim, this is one of my favorite passages. I love that it's not about God giving more of himself to us, but about how we, when we are in Christ, give more of ourselves to Him. That is such a great reminder of our position in Christ. We are nothing without Him, so when He lives in us, that should be shown by our lives. It should be evident that we have the spirit in us by our actions. We should strive to do more for Him because of HIs indwelling in us. I am praying that this would be true in my life, that I would let go of the things that hold me back, and let Christ have full control. I already have all of the Spirit, so I should be ready and willing to give Him all of me.
I accidently read and commented on chapter 8 yesterday, so here is that comment from yesterday:
As I read this chapter I realized that I'm so familiar with almost every word. This is such a powerful chapter that I think I grew two inches while reading it. I think I'm going to read this on a regular basis from now on.
Sorry, I'm a day behind. I love this passage. What stuck out to me today is v 26. "But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words". How encouraging that should be!
