Daniel 10

Today's Passage: Daniel 10

Seeking the Lord with a Humble Heart

In Daniel 10, we see a powerful example of what it means to truly seek the Lord. Daniel “set his heart to understand” and humbled himself before God. This posture of the heart is one we should strive to imitate. But what does it really mean to set our hearts on understanding the Lord?

Daniel served as a wise man in the court of King Cyrus, a ruler who did not honor God. He had every opportunity to seek wisdom from worldly sources to secure his status and influence. Yet, he chose differently. In chapter 9, Daniel interceded for his people in prayer, and in chapter 10, he mourned and fasted to seek understanding from the Lord. His deepest desire was not power, position, or comfort—it was to know God.

Where does God stand in your priorities? When we truly seek to understand the Lord, everything else in life falls into place. Our families begin to reflect His love. Our work becomes fulfilling as we do it for His glory. Serving in the church is no longer just another task—it becomes an act of worship.

Pursuing the Lord with all our hearts leads to humility. The more we learn about God—His character, His holiness, His love—the more we realize our own insufficiency. God does not love us because we are worthy, but because He is love itself. We don’t pursue holiness to earn His favor, but because it is a reflection of His very nature. True knowledge of God always leads to humility.

The most beautiful part of this passage is how God responds to Daniel’s heart. In verse 12, the angel tells him, “Your words have been heard, and I have come because of your words.” This truth is echoed in Psalm 34:18 and James 4:6—God draws near to the humble. When we sincerely seek Him, He listens, He responds, and He draws close.

So, set your heart on Him. Acknowledge His kingship and embrace the grace He so freely gives. When we seek Him with humility, He will always meet us there.
