2 Timothy 1:7-12

Today’s Passage: 2 Timothy 1:7-12
Again, Paul is in prison in Rome. Historical thought places him in Mamertine Prison
(https://www.bibleplaces.com/mamertine-prison/?srsltid=AfmBOoqY438flYp2axVE53h hqUXLt7HZvmwz2Q-hWpSg-Did4tWVDZUn). This is the last letter Paul writes before
his death and he is writing it to Timothy. He is giving him his last exhortations on living
his life for Jesus, leading God’s church, and fulfilling his calling.
Our text today is 2 Timothy 1:7-12 and I believe we see Paul tell Timothy to BE three
things:
1) BE BOLD (v.7-8)
He reminds him that God has not called Him to be fearful but to rest in the truth of
the gospel. He calls him not to be ashamed and to realize that he will share in the
sufferings of Christ for the gospel. You can hear Paul “Be bold Timothy!”
2) BE GROUNDED (v.9-11)
He didn’t just call him to be bold but to be grounded. Be grounded in what? The truth
of the gospel.
It is a lot easier to be bold when you are grounded. We are not called to be grounded
in ourselves but to be grounded in Jesus.
3) BE CONFIDENT (v.12)
You can see Paul’s confidence in this verse…
“I know in whom I have believed and I am convinced that He is able to guard until that day what has been entrusted to me. We have been entrusted with the gospel; both to experience it and to proclaim it. God is able to guard that. Paul was confident in God… not because of himself but because of God. God has called us to be confident in Him."
BE BOLD. BE GROUNDED. BE CONFIDENT. What does it look like for you to take a
step?

● God saved us.
● God called us.
● God did this because of Him not because of us.
● God gave us Himself.
● God abolished death.
● God brought light and immortality.
● God calls us to be a part of reaching the world.
