1 Timothy 4:6-16

Today's Passage: 1 Timothy 4:6-16

I am excited to continue in the book of 1 Timothy today! This is a challenging book to
our faith and our walk with Jesus Christ. Paul is instructing Timothy on how to push
forward where God has placed him. He has just wrapped up giving him some warning
and now he is going to give him some exhortations. His challenge to Timothy in
chapter 4 should cause us to ask 3 big questions this new year as we want to follow
Jesus.

1) WHAT ARE YOU FEEDING YOUR HEART? (v.6-7a)

You hunger for whatever you are fed. Whatever you feed, grows. So, what are you
feeding your heart? Paul challenges Timothy to feed on the words of God and good
doctrine. These two things keep us centered. He challenges him to not feed on things
that don’t matter.

2) WHAT IS THE FOCUS OF YOUR LIFE? (v.7b-10)

Paul made it really clear what the ultimate goal of our lives are… GODLINESS. This is
the focus. This is the direction. This is the goal. Because it holds promise not just for
this life but for the future life with Christ. So we toil and strive toward that end. We
have our hope set on the living God. Is godliness the focus of your life?

3) ARE YOU FOLLOWABLE? (v.11-16)

We are not just commanded to follow Jesus. We are commanded to help others
follow Jesus. God has placed you around specific, chosen people that you are called to
have an influence on. But we have to be followable. We have to set an example. We
have to point them to Christ through our life. And we have to open our mouths and
share with them the gospel of Christ.

As we continue in 2025, what does it look like for you to FEED your heart, FOCUS your
life, and be FOLLOWABLE?
