1 Timothy 1:12-20

Today's Passage: 1 Timothy 1:12-20

What I love in this passage is the stark contrast between what we chose to do left to ourselves compared to what Jesus has done for us.

What we do left to ourselves:
•  Blaspheme, persecute, opponent of God (v. 13a)
•  Didn’t believe in God (v. 13b)
•  Sinners (v. 15)

Apart from Jesus, this is what our lives are marked by – sin and rebellion. We may have not sinned in the same way Paul did, but we’ve all separated ourselves from God because of our sin. But when we come into a relationship with Jesus, we can experience what Paul did. Look at what Jesus did for us.

What Jesus did:
•  Appointed us to His service (v. 12)
•  Gave mercy (v. 13, 16)
•  Gave grace (v. 14)
•  Saved us (v. 15)
•  Allowed us to have a testimony and be able to share it (v. 16)
•  Gave eternal life (v. 16b)

Because all of these things are true, Paul’s response in verse 17 should be our response: To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.

And may we not abandon these truths and shipwreck our faith as Hymenaeus and Alexander did (v. 19b-20).
